You will enjoy a guided visit of one of the oldest wineries in La Rioja. The strategic situation of their vineyards, the exceptional quality of the plantings, and the varieties used are essentially complemented by a magnificent winery, whose creation process was similar to the planting of the vineyards: slowly, with maximum care and attention. Among other features, the winery is noted for being one of the few bodegas in the world with its own traditionally crafted cooperage with 3 master coopers constructing and repairing a hundred percent of the barrels they use. Their wines are internationally recognised as one of the most unique of the region. You will sample them in a beautiful setting inside the winery.

After the visit, you will be driven to Laguardia. Built at the beginning of the 13th century, the whole urban centre of Laguardia is enclosed by walls. You will enjoy lunch at one of the most traditional restaurants in town with delicious delicacies from the fertile surroundings.

After lunch, you will stop by probably the most spectacular winery in the region: Marqués de Riscal. Founded in the mid-18th Century, Marqués de Riscal is steeped in tradition, being one of the proudest and oldest wineries in Spain, yet it has never rested on its laurels, always keeping an eagle eye on the future; an outlook arguably exemplified no better than its stunning, Frank Gehry-designed winery – a ground-breaker of its time.

After that, you will be driven back to Haro's old town to the old walls of an imposing Augustinian monastery which will be your home for tonight.

For dinner, you will indulge yourself in the hotel's a-la-carte restaurant and you will try some of the most delicious wines Rioja produces in the area. But Pamplona has more to offer such as its beautiful Old Town.

Your hotel for tonight will be the Gran Hotel La Perla, a historic building, which is highly committed with its history dated from the 19th. It has has witnessed part of the local, regional and even national history. People such as Ernest Hemingway, Orson Welles, Charles Chaplin and Imperio Argentina, have contributed to make this hotel a unique spot.

After lunch you will be driven to your next stop in this epicurean journey (1h 15 min) : San Sebastian, the pearl of the Cantabrian sea, is the most elegant coastal town in Spain, with influences of the French Riviera.

In the late 19th century the seaside town on the southern point of the Bay of Biscay became a favourite destination for royalty and aristocrats who came to enjoy the sunshine and newly recognized therapeutic properties of sea bathing.

A traditional afternoon stroll along the boardwalk offered an opportunity to see and be seen while the many cafés and open-air terraces were filled with high society.

San Sebastian had passed from being a sleepy fishing village into a thriving cosmopolitan town requiring luxurious, modern facilities to meet the demands of its discerning guests.

Serendipitously this urban blossoming occurred at the height of the Belle Époque era, and today most buildings flanking the famed La Concha beach, including the city hall, Victoria Eugenia Theatre and the Hotel Maria Cristina (which will be your home for two nights), are constructed in this style.

You will stay in one of the best hotels in Spain, a destination in itself, a unique hotel in San Sebastian old town that you will remember forever.

For dinner, you will enjoy the lively atmosphere of San Sebastian during a traditional meal in a Basque restaurant to savour delicious local specialities.

Day 9- January 14th

play

At the designated time, you will be driven to the airport on time to take a domestic flight (1h) to Barcelona.  You will be transferred to your home for the next three nights.

Hotel Monument is a modern and luxurious hotel located on the iconic Paseo de Gracia, the main shopping street in the city and home to major national and international luxury brand shops, opposite the celebrated La Pedrera building, a few metres from Casa Batlló and close to the many other points of architectural and cultural interest that make Barcelona one of the most attractive and cosmopolitan cities in Europe.

The pre-modernist heritage that emanates from its walls, its exclusive luxury services, its varied and attractive range of cuisine under the direction of Martín Berasategui and its prime location are the calling cards of this hotel.

You will have some time to relax at the hotel and you will enjoy a light afternoon stroll near the hotel to feel the vibrant atmosphere of Barcelona.

For dinner, you will be escorted to a unique elegant restaurant, where you will savour traditional Spanish food at its best.

Day 10 - January 15th

After a reinvigorating sleep and a full breakfast, your guide will pick you up from your hotel for a day of exploring this spectacular city.

Today, you will discover the works of Spain's most famous architect, Antoni Gaudí. You will start from the door of your hotel as you will be staying in the iconic Passeo de Gracia where the wealthy families once lived, now a high end shopping street.  This area is where Barcelona started expanding 150 years ago following the plan of the engineer Ildefons Cerdà. In this district bloomed our Modernism (local Art Nouveau), and the Parisian influence is certainly noticeable here

Here Gaudi produced some of his most famous masterpieces, in which we will be focusing. In the Block of Disagreement, a fabulous group of buildings featuring works of the top architects of the time, stands out the colourful Casa Batlló, possibly inspired in the story of Saint Georges and the Dragon. Casa Milá - La Pedrera is another masterpiece of Antoni Gaudi: be amazed at its spectacular rooftop with 360º views over the city, learn about the architect’s technique and inspirations, and visit an apartment decorated with original vintage antiques.

You’ll next hop on a taxi ride and head North of the city to visit Park Güell, one more of Gaudí’s masterpieces: a failed project of a planned community that has become now a fantastic public park famous for its mosaics.

You will enjoy a light lunch based on Spanish tapas in a local restaurantbefore heading to the breathtaking Sagrada Familia church, a breathtaking building still under construction, where Gaudi devoted the last 43 years of his life. Its inside was finally dedicated in 2010 and it doesn’t look like any other church you’ve seen before. It will definitely be the highlight of your whole trip!

Enjoy the rest of the evening at your own leisure at the hotel. For dinner, you will be escorted to a fine dining restaurant close to your hotel.

Day 11 - January 16th

barcelona boqueria

After a reinvigorating sleep and a full breakfast, your guide will pick you up from your hotel for another day of exploring Barcelona. Today you will explore its old town starting with La Rambla, a street that is busy any time of the day and night. We will pass a flower market and also have the chance to enter the amazing Boqueria Market, said to be one of the best in the world for its variety and spectacular displays going from unique local produce to exotic imports, from daily life food to gourmet delicacies.

The Gothic Quarter is where the Romans founded Barcelona 2000 years ago, then in the middle ages it witnessed our first period of splendour with the Gothic Times. You’ll walk around medieval plazas and alleys, see Roman ruins and also monumental buildings such as the Royal Palace, the City Council and the Generalitat Government building.

You will also have the opportunity to visit the Gothic Cathedral of St. Eulàlia and the Holy Cross, with its historical wooden choir, artistic chapels, the crypt where Saint Eulalia is buried, and also an picturesque cloister where 13 geese live.

Or if you prefer, we’ll show you the Call (Medieval Jewish Section). Despite the attacks suffered in 1391, it’s still a highly atmospheric area with a fascinating although sad history. Here is located the oldest synagogue in Europe.

Next you’ll explore the Born district, a trendy neighbourhood in the Old Town, with cool local designers shops, great tapas bars  and a vibrant atmosphere. The locals consider it to be the Soho of Barcelona. You can visit here the church of Santa Maria del Mar with its impressive stained-glasses.

If you wish you may visit today the only Picasso Museum in the world specialising in the artist’s early years. Learn about his training period, how he  joined the bohemian local artists and his first steps in Paris (including the Blue Period), and be amazed at the wonderful variations he created around the Meninas by Velazquez in the 1950s.

You will stop for a lunch a traditional restaurant on route. You will enjoy the rest of the day at your own leisure at the hotel. If you need assistance, your guide can help you to do some shopping to take home.

Tonight, you will enjoy a farewell dinner at a special fine dining restaurant.
